It Couldn’t Be Done
Somebody said that it couldn’t be done,
But, he with a chuckle replied
That "maybe it couldn’t," but he would be one
Who wouldn’t say so till he’d tried.
So he buckled right in with the trace of a grin
On his face. If he worried he hid it.
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
Somebody scoffed: "Oh, you’ll never do that;
At least no one has done it";
But he took off his coat and he took off his hat,
And the first thing we knew he’d begun it.
With a lift of his chin and a bit of a grin,
Without any doubting or quiddit,
He started to sing as he tackled the thing
That couldn’t be done, and he did it.
There are thousands to tell you it cannot be done,
There are thousands to prophesy failure;
There are thousands to point out to you one by one,
The dangers that wait to assail you.
But just buckle it in with a bit of a grin,
Just take off your coat and go to it;
Just start to sing as you tackle the thing
That "couldn’t be done," and you’ll do it.

Caged Bird

A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind   
and floats downstream   
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks
down his narrow cage
can seldom see through
his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and   
his feet are tied
so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings   
with a fearful trill   
of things unknown   
but longed for still   
and his tune is heard   
on the distant hill   
for the caged bird   
sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn bright lawn
and he names the sky his own
But a caged bird stands on the grave of dreams   
his shadow shouts on a nightmare scream   
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied   
so he opens his throat to sing.

Showing Up


Sometimes it seems next to impossible to be able to do all that needs to be done. It's sometimes hard to stay positive and keep moving. In a time like this when I have little energy yet time demands that I give my best -- I am going to try one of my old philosophies -- something that has helped me get out of the deepest of ruts....

Awesomeness

The earth has music for those who listen - William Shakespeare

The inspiration for this is really something that I saw while driving from Louisville to Chicago 2 weeks ago. It was pitch dark and very close to midnight when I (half dead and half asleep) saw this huge windmill field just over an hour from Chicago. Suddenly out of the blue (or well black of the night!)these red lights were flashing in tandem left, right and as far down as I could see. Everytime a windmill made a turn , there it was the bright red flash . It really has to be seen to understand what I mean > when for almost 6 miles this majestic sight lasted. Really made me wonder about all the awesomeness that man creates.
Talking about awesomeness, it is really everywhere if one chooses to see. The beautiful creek in my apartment complex, the pat on the back from an old patient, the excited wag of my dog's tail, getting an experiment right in the lab, my mom in law's text reminders that she loves me and not to forget my husband's most amazing paneer dishes....the list really goes on.
Thank you God for all the awesomeness. I pray I can see this all the time :)

FACES OF BLISS

Here I am writing after a long hiatus. Life changes and how! Lots of good things have happened and yet challenges remain , new ones replacing the old. The ecstasy of being with the one I love yet with the heartbreak of being away from those I have loved all my life. At this time one thought makes me go on - life's events turn out in the direction that one looks....the one choice that is always in our hands. The choice of our vision and our direction. To many of us who recently saw the movie, The Blind Side, these lines would be familiar. Talking of other references, this is also the motto of the state of Ohio.But ofcourse, the true origin of the phrase is:

"But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible." —Matthew 19:26

This is surely an inspiration to go beyond the limitations of what is generally thought to be possible. When we choose to sail against the wind, we need to keep our faith through the trying times. Faith is the anchor that helps survive the storm.My friend MS and I have always stood by : Do your best and let God do the rest.So let's just put in the best possible effort and then let go - with God , All Things Are Possible.

A custom-made life :)


One day while pondering over the feasability of goals or dreams as I like to refer to them, it occured to me that all doubts are essentially a fallacy. Come to think of it,each one of us has very unique dreams and very individualistic aspirations. There is a subtle overlap but that ends there. Looking at it from the world's point of view, this is very important. If we were all to have essentially similar aspirations, half the things in the world will not get done. The great achievements in history and even our present would not exist at all. For every breakthrough has seen people achieving great things while following their own vision and their own path. Speaking on a smaller scale, even on a daily basis, things will not get done if we all liked to do exactly the same things and hated exactly the same tasks.
One important corollary of this is that if we have such unique dreams, by default it is safe to assume that we also have the unique abilities matched to achieve these. All doubts whether we will fulfill our aspirations are thus a fallacy.
IF WE WON'T, WHO WILL?

Just to add to this, sometimes we have our desires put on hold by GOD. The waiting period can be tough. But from my own experiences and of those around me, I believe that GOD is custom- making your life. HIS plans are not just great but perfect and sometimes perfection takes time. Plus HE might just be taking the extra time to gift wrap it for you ;)
NEVER STOP BELIEVING :)

The Good Year :)


Time and again one of my close friends and I shared this thought that helped us deal with challenges both big and small- This is a good year and only good things will happen this year--much like Chanchad's philosophy of 'Aal iz Well.'It sure has been a fool proof philosophy, so far so good.
Moreover, I began this year with a resolution to think blissfully, to visualize great things into my life and those around me. Those who know me well are witness to the things this made possible. With folded hands I pray to God that may this good year be followed by better years for each one of us. Over to another year of blissful thinking....Happy New(Even better)Year :)

They say there is nothing more dangerous than an animal cornered. With the fear of death looming over it's head, making a last ditch effort to live....it has nothing to lose. Similarly in the darkest of times in our lives, when we know that the only way things can go now is up, life is often just waiting for us to make a move, the tide is waiting to turn. This is the time when all we have to do is to muster up the courage to take that one chance. To silence the cacophony in our head...what if doesn't work out....to replace it with the magic of ...what if everything works out?
This year I have learned my lessons in taking chances, lots of courage and lots of focus....so far so good.
Take chances ....you have nothing to lose....except despair.
